What does this tool do
The Unit Converter converts between units of length, weight, temperature, area, volume, speed, data, and time. Select a category and the source and target units, enter a value, and see the converted result instantly. Supports metric, imperial, and other common unit systems.
How to use it
- Select category — Choose length, weight, temperature, area, volume, speed, data, or time.
- Pick units — Select the source unit (e.g. metres) and target unit (e.g. feet).
- Enter value — Type the quantity you want to convert.
- View result — The converted value appears immediately. Reverse the units to convert the other way.
How it works
Each category uses defined conversion factors to a base unit (e.g. metres for length, kilograms for weight). The input value is multiplied by the factor from source to base, then by the factor from base to target. Temperature uses special formulas (Celsius ↔ Fahrenheit ↔ Kelvin) because the scales have different zero points. Volume treats cubic centimetre (cc) as equivalent to millilitre (mL).
All computation runs entirely in your browser. No data is sent to any server.
Use cases & examples
- Cooking — Convert cups to ml, ounces to grams.
- Travel — Miles to kilometres, feet to metres.
- Science — Celsius to Kelvin, kg to pounds.
- Tech — MB to GB, bytes to bits.
- Real estate — Square feet to square metres.
Example
- 100 km → 62.14 miles
- 32 °F → 0 °C
- 1 gallon (US) → 3.785 litres
Limitations & known constraints
- Precision — Results are rounded; extremely small or large values may lose precision.
- US vs UK — Some units (e.g. gallon) may differ between US and UK; the tool uses a fixed definition.
- Categories only — Cannot convert across categories (e.g. length to area).
