Regular expression

A sequence of characters that defines a search pattern (e.g. \d+ for digits). Used for matching, replacing, or validating text. The Regex Tester and Text Cleaner tools use JavaScript's RegExp (ECMAScript flavor).

Capture group

A parenthesized part of a regex that captures the matched substring. Groups are numbered left-to-right; $1, $2 in replacement refer to them. The Regex Tester displays each match's groups.
